Ashley Wilburn is a native of Hagerstown in Maryland. She graduated from North Hagerstown High School where she received her secondary education. With a passion for family law, Ashley's current legal practice revolves around various aspects of family law. She focuses a majority of her practice on divorce cases, alimony disputes, the distribution of marital property, child custody battles, child support arrangements, postnuptial and prenuptial agreements, post-divorce enforcement issues including step-parent and private parties adoptions, as well as issues involving children's welfare. In addition to family law, Ashley also handles estate planning matters, including trusts, wills and probate and estate administration as well as commercial contract, civil litigation cases. Ashley has been as a mediator appointed by the court since 2019 she assists parties in helping them settle their disputes without needing to litigate or court involvement. In addition to mediations arranged by the court, Ashley also mediates in private cases for people who would prefer to avoid the court process and litigation.
Ashley completed her undergraduate studies in History and Politics at Loyola University of Maryland. Then, she pursued her legal education at Western New England University School of Law. Graduating in 2013, she excelled academically, placing among the top 10 students in her class. While in law school, Ashley served as a Note Editor for the prestigious Western New England Law Review which showcased her dedication to legal research and scholarship.
Ashley began her clerkship journey after completing her law degree. She worked for distinguished jurists from Connecticut and Maryland. She had the pleasure of working as a law clerk for the Honorable Richard A. Robinson and the Honorable Elliott D. Prescott at the Connecticut Appellate Court. In 2014, she returned to Hagerstown Maryland to work as a law clerk for the Honorable M. Kenneth Long, Washington County Circuit Court. Ashley joined Poole & Kane P.A. in 2015 as an associate attorney. as an associate attorney. Her main responsibilities at the firm involved representing the Washington County Department of Social Services in cases involving child welfare. Through her dedicated efforts, Ashley played a vital role in assisting children who had suffered neglect or abuse at parent or caregivers. Her dedication to social justice spanned beyond her legal practice and she was active as an executive member of the Washington County Human Trafficking Task Force working tirelessly to increase awareness of human trafficking in the tri-state area.
In 2017, she was a founding partner at Kane, Wilburn & Stone, P.A., and began her practice in family law – custody, divorce guardianships, child maintenance and divorce – as well as estate and financial planning – wills, trusts and powers of attorney, advance directives/healthcare proxy – and mediation.
Ashley established Wilburn Law Office, LLC, 2023, with the commitment to provide an individual approach to each client's needs.
